Dear grandchildren and great grandchildren

Arthur Astrop: When I was young I was always very very busy, with all sorts of interesting and exciting things to do. Just like you right now, in fact! As a result, there was plenty of time to ask questions of my parents, my aunts and uncles, and my grandparents, who would all be around for a very long time yet.

Such questions as ‘Where were you born? Where did you go to school? What subjects were you good at? What subjects did you hate? What was your first job? Where were you in the first world war? How did you meet your partner? And so on. In fact, of course, there was not plenty of time.

While I was still being very busy’, growing up, starting a career, getting married, and becoming a parent, first my grandparents and then my parents died. Too late I realised that there were few, if any, relatives left to answer my questions about their lives.

I would not like this to happen to you. Start to ask questions.

Start here at Ons Huis. One day it will be too late!
