Saterdaglagmedisyne - "Don’t be difficult with old people"

This old lady handed her bank card to the teller and said, “I would like to withdraw R10.”
The teller told her, “For withdrawals less than R100, please use the ATM."
The old lady wanted to know why.
The teller returned her bank card and irritably told her, “These are the rules, please leave if there is no further matter. There is a line of customers behind you.”
The old lady remained silent for a few seconds and handed her card back to the teller and said, “Please help me withdraw all the money I have.”
The teller was astonished when she checked the account balance. She nodded her head, leaned down and respectfully told her, “You have R600 000 in your account, but the bank doesn’t have that much cash currently. Could you make an appointment and come back again tomorrow?"
The old lady then asked how much she could withdraw immediately. The teller told her any amount up to R3000.
“Well, please let me have R3000 now.”
The teller, very kindly and with a smile, handed R3000 to her.
The old lady put R10 in her purse and asked the teller to deposit R2990 back into her account.
HAHAHA.
The moral of this story is ...
Don’t be difficult with old people, they spent a lifetime learning the skill.

Dear grandchildren and great grandchildren

Arthur Astrop: When I was young I was always very very busy, with all sorts of interesting and exciting things to do. Just like you right now, in fact! As a result, there was plenty of time to ask questions of my parents, my aunts and uncles, and my grandparents, who would all be around for a very long time yet.

Such questions as ‘Where were you born? Where did you go to school? What subjects were you good at? What subjects did you hate? What was your first job? Where were you in the first world war? How did you meet your partner? And so on. In fact, of course, there was not plenty of time.

While I was still being very busy’, growing up, starting a career, getting married, and becoming a parent, first my grandparents and then my parents died. Too late I realised that there were few, if any, relatives left to answer my questions about their lives.

I would not like this to happen to you. Start to ask questions.

Start here at Ons Huis. One day it will be too late!

Poem: They are the greatest!

The computer swallowed grandma.
Yes, honestly it's true!
She pressed 'control and 'enter'
And disappeared from view.

It devoured her completely,
The thought just makes me squirm.
she must have caught a virus
Or been eaten by a worm.

I've searched through the recycle bin
And files of every kind;
I've even used the Internet,
But nothing did I find.

In desperation, I asked Google
My searches to refine.
The reply from there was negative,
Not a thing was found 'online.'

So, if inside your 'In box,'
My Grandma you should see,
Please 'Copy, Scan' and 'Paste'
And send her back to me.

[This is a tribute to all the Grandmas and Grandpas
who have been fearless and learned to use the computer...]
